Slash Les Paul Build Feature
Custom Built as a first project by Danny Huscroft
Demo by John

This is the Slash Les Paul copy built by Danny, my son in law. It is his first effort at making anything in wood, let alone a relatively complex project like the Les Paul! I think that he has done a brilliant job.
This guitar has turned out to be a bit of a gem, being built from old timber (the body is one piece, 40 year old Brazilian Mahogany) and the benefits are clearly audible (check out the demo).
We specified the one piece Brazilian Mahogany neck to fit Danny's hand perfectly. It is a chunky neck by any standards and has the string spacing increased slightly at the headstock to give a little more room for his fingers. The truss rod is one of our 6mm dia types with brass anchor. The chunky neck and all of that steel definitely help the tone and sustain (exceptional), but the guitar is probably the heaviest Les Paul I have ever picked up! Fretboard is a nice, completely black piece of Ebony with genuine M.O.P inlay and a std. 12" radius. We bound the neck in the proper Gibson fashion with frets cut short of the binding. I hand painted the Slash headstock motif and sealed it under the laquer.
The body is capped in a book matched, lightly tiger striped Maple and this has taken on a beautiful dark honey colour under the nitro cellulose finish. Slash signature zebra pickups grace the curvaceous body, complete with chrome tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece.
We fitted large strap locks on this guitar as a nose dive would be fatal at this weight!!
All in all a very successful first guitar project and demonstrates just what can be achieved on a low budget (nowhere near the ten grand asking price of the Gibson!) and with patience, commitment and a little intelligence!
